What are the responsibilities and job description for the MEP QC / Commissioning Coordinator position at BLHI?
Job Duties & Requirements:
- Lead and manage mechanical quality control processes in accordance with project specifications and federal requirements
- Coordinate and support commissioning activities across all MEP systems from pre-functional testing through final acceptance
- Review submittals, shop drawings, and equipment documentation for compliance with contract requirements
- Develop and track QC checklists, inspection reports, and deficiency logs
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and other commissioning agents
- Ensure all systems are properly installed, tested, balanced, and documented prior to turnover
- Participate in pre-installation meetings, commissioning meetings, and owner/agency walkthroughs
- Assist in developing and maintaining commissioning plans, schedules, and documentation
- Identify and resolve quality or performance issues proactively in the field
- Support training and turnover of systems to owners, including O&M manuals and as-built documentation
- Ensure compliance with all federal, safety, and quality standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture with at least 10 years of commissioning experience
- 7 years of experience in MEP construction and quality control
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, controls), with familiarity in electrical and plumbing systems
- Previous experience supporting or leading commissioning efforts on complex projects
- Experience working on federal or government projects preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and commissioning plans
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities
- Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office tools
Preferred Certifications
- USACE/NAVFAC Construction Quality Management (CQM) certification
- Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) or similar credential
- LEED accreditation or other relevant certifications a plus
