SUMMARY OF JOB:
To coordinate all aspects of health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) management to successfully meet or exceed enterprise and business unit goals. The HSSE Manager will report to an individual with responsibility in manufacturing or operations for the business segment. The HSSE Manager has a dotted line relationship with Corporate HSSE and other functional business unit. Scope will usually be a medium size high risk division, a large size division, multi division, or a region such as a Country. This position does not have direct reports.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for leading HSSE programs and procedures cascaded from Corporate, Group or Division to meet enterprise and business unit EHS objectives and targets with an emphasis on Safety and Accident Prevention, HSSE Regulatory Compliance and Resource Conservation.
- Provides safety expertise, training and leadership in the Group’s 14 Safety Management Systems and 11 Life Saving Rules areas such as industrial health and safety, lock out/tag out requirements, confined space requirements, etc. to meet continue to develop the company’s positive safety culture
- Incident management, including efforts to continually decrease the number of work accidents, injuries and illnesses by monitoring and developing innovative strategies to reduce incident and accidental rates.
- Responsible for leading the successful use of HSSE management systems which include the Corporate EHS Directives, ISO 14001 certification and any other applicable EHS management system certifications or elements.
- Responsible for ensuring all required HSSE reporting is completed which includes performance against targets and goals, regulatory reporting, and corporate, business unit and customer required reporting.
- Manages an HSSE training program for applicable EHS training required across the business unit from employee to leader.
- Responsible for leading an HSSE corrective action program which would include EHS audits, Security risk assessments regulatory inspections, industrial accidents, customer EHS audits and other assessments that identify EHS issues that require corrective action with the exception of environmental remediation of property.
- Responsible for maintaining a resource conservation program which will include but not be limited to energy use, water use and waste generated from production.
- Leads an HSSE program for change which includes new processes, equipment, materials and people.
- Leads or manages, as directed, for acquisitions, divestitures, facility closure and environmental remediation of property.
- Actively works with other functional leaders for integration of HSSE into Lean, Quality, Supply Chain, HR, Sales, Service and Innovation. Leverage existing systems and procedures in those functional areas to the extent possible in HSSE management.
- Leads by example to develop an HSSE culture of excellence for safety and environmental management through effective communication.
- Leads program for HSSE with contractors that do work on site.
