Qualifications and Experience
- Certification or proficiency as a Sign Language Interpreter is required.
- Minimum of 3.5 EIPA score.
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture.
- Previous experience supporting Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in educational settings is highly valued.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within multidisciplinary teams.
- Adaptable and comfortable working across different schools and age groups.
Primary Responsibilities
- Interpret classroom instruction, lectures, and school activities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and peers.
- Prepare in advance by reviewing educational materials to ensure accurate translation.
- Adjust interpreting style and vocabulary based on student needs and educational level.
- Collaborate with staff to support student participation and inclusion.
- Provide feedback or recommendations to educators for optimal student support.
