Summary:
The Web Developer II will directly contribute to and lead the creation of high-quality, accessible WordPress websites for schools. This role involves hands-on design work (using tools like Figma), client communication, proposal writing, and process documentation. The Web Developer II will oversee site maintenance, ensure compliance with accessibility standards, and refine procedures to keep projects secure, up-to-date, and efficient. They will also evaluate workflows, technology choices, and strategies to ensure that web initiatives are both cost-effective and aligned with organizational goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and oversee web development projects from initial concept to launch.
- Ensure that all deliverables meet quality standards, are completed on schedule, and align with organizational goals.
- Expand client base by networking, conducting outreach, and building relationships to expand the company’s client base.
- Communicate directly with clients to understand their needs, create proposals, and provide expert recommendations.
- Lead client meetings, workshops, and presentations to align objectives and manage expectations.
- Use Figma or similar tools to conceptualize and prototype user-friendly website interfaces.
- Incorporate responsive design principles and best practices to ensure engaging, intuitive user experiences.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of WCAG 2.0/2.1, ADA compliance, and related accessibility standards.
- Stay current on evolving accessibility best practices and regulations.
- Collaborate with IT teams to troubleshoot hosting-related issues and improve performance.
- Basic familiarity with Linux-based systems is beneficial for troubleshooting and enhancements.
- Develop processes for regular WordPress updates, security patches, and backups to maintain site integrity.
- Monitor emerging security risks, vulnerabilities, and performance issues, and implement appropriate safeguards.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for development workflows, coding standards, and best practices.
- Continuously refine procedures to ensure efficient handoffs, reduced downtime, and cost-effective operations.
- Evaluate current development practices to identify cost-saving measures and improved profitability.
- Recommend and implement new tools, methodologies, or technologies that streamline operations and lower long-term costs.
- Attend overnight conferences and events to network, expand the client base, and foster relationships with potential clients and partners.

- Maintain a valid state driver’s license and ability to drive without advanced notice

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Web Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in website design, development, and maintenance, preferably with WordPress.
- Proficiency in Figma or similar design/prototyping tools.
- Experience in developing and maintaining client relationships, including creating proposals and communicating complex ideas in non-technical terms.
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0/2.1, ADA compliance)
- Strong understanding of project management principles and proven ability to oversee multiple initiatives on tight timelines.
- Familiarity with basic hosting and server infrastructure (Linux experience is a plus, but not required).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to define, document, and improve internal processes.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The position Web Developer II shall be a 261-day position.
