The Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines, Iowa is a non-profit organization and home to more than 2,800 animals representing nearly 240 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish, and is fully accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The mission of the Blank Park Zoo is to inspire an appreciation of the natural world through conservation, education, research and recreation.
Position Purpose
The Cash Room Attendant is responsible for supporting zoo operations and guest experiences with cash management.
Essential Functions

- Hands out cash drawers and other resources to cashiers at beginning of shift and checks them back in at the end of the shift.
- Makes sure all drawers and resources are accounted for and secured at the end of the day.
- Reconciles safe balance daily and “End of Shift/Day” reports for all cashier areas.
- Compiles deposits daily and transports to the bank as needed.
- Delivers cash to cashiers in the zoo when they need change throughout the day.
- Builds cash drawers for future days.
- Services beverage vending machines and other coin machines regularly as needed.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent is required to work both indoors and outdoors with exposure to seasonal weather conditions. The incumbent is regularly required to sit or stand at a counter for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and utilize manual dexterity to use computer mouse and keyboard and other office equipment. The incumbent will be required to spend long amounts of time in a small office.

Required education and experience
- Cash handling experience is required.

- Must be insurable to drive a zoo vehicle.
- Must be able to maintain work hours that will serve the needs of the Blank Park Zoo.
- Must be able to maintain calm and act professionally in all situations such as emergencies and guest interactions.
- Must be available to work a varied shift that can include Weekends, Holidays, Special Events and Evenings.
