GUEST EXPERIENCE - Volunteer Specialist
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time
Reports To: Experience Manager
Position Summary:
The Guest Experience Team seeks individuals who are passionate about offering enriching and engaging experiences at Blandford Nature Center. The Guest Experience-Volunteer Specialist serves as the first point of contact in the Visitor Center to share all that BNC has to offer to guests, program participants, donors, and, in this position, is focused on coordinating and nurturing volunteers.
Day-to-day tasks:
Guest Services
Open and close facilities in a timely and responsible manner
Greet guests and telephone inquiries in a friendly and courteous manner
Process retail, program, admission and membership payment using appropriate point of sale and database platforms – using sales strategies, increase revenue for the nature center
Orient guests to the experiences, trails, campuses, buildings, and program opportunities offered
Maintain Visitor Center tidiness; restocking items as needed
Volunteer Specialist
As directed by the Experience Manager, our Guest Experience - Volunteer Specialist will have responsibility for:
Process Volunteer Applications, including background checks and recommend volunteers for open opportunities
Create and send monthly Volunteer e-newsletter
Correspond with Volunteer Groups and Individual Volunteers via email to fill operational needs
Manage volunteer database and run requested reports on a monthly basis
Generate monthly volunteer focused content for organization’s social media platforms, deployed by BNC’s marketing team
Organizational Support
As directed by the Experience Manager, our Guest Experience team may need to:
Assist with organizational administrative needs, including program registrations, engagement calls, and marketing efforts as needed
Assist with Rentals and Retail revenue measures as needed
Assist with Membership & Engagement programs as needed
Work Hours
This position works 16 to 20 hours a week, as the visitor center is open Monday through Saturday with shifts between 8:45 am - 5:15 pm. There is flexibility for shifts within the week. We are happy to work with the candidate to consider adaptive start and end times on Monday-Friday that fall during operating hours. Occasional Saturday hours are required.
Physical
While performing this job, the Guest Experience-Volunteer Specialist is regularly required to sit, stand, bend or kneel for extended periods of time. Occasionally this position will be required to move up to 30lbs and occasionally lead volunteer groups on trails or on the property.
The Successful Candidate will possess:
A spirit of hospitality and belonging beyond welcome
Customer service experience including cash handling
Volunteer experience, either coordinating or working with volunteers at non-profit organizations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
The ability to learn and apply computer programs, software and applications
Attention to detail
Available and reliable to work Saturdays and flexible weekly hours
Positive role model in attitude and behavior
Energetic and flexible; ability to work independently
Projects a professional image internally and externally
Experience working with communities from diverse backgrounds and cultures, bi-lingual is a bonus!
Compensation:
This is a paid, non-exempt, part-time position working between 16-20 hours per week. Pay for this position starts at $16.00 per hour. Blandford Nature Center offers a generous amount of paid personal time off (PTO) that increases overtime; paid holidays (9), paid day off for birthday, and paid time off during winter closure, a SIMPLE IRA plan with a 3% employer match; free BNC Membership; and discount on BNC program registrations and gift shop merchandise.
