This Clinical Supervisor position will work ten hour shifts from 5:00 PM - 3:00 AM as a four day work week. Weekends and holidays as needed, but not routinely scheduled.

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The Emergency Department Clinical Supervisor oversees the day-to-day clinical operations, staffing, and patient flow within the Emergency Department (ED). This role ensures safe, high quality patient care, supports departmental staff, and collaborates with leadership to maintain regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and positive patient outcomes. The ED Clinical Supervisor serves as a resource, mentor, and clinical leader for the multidisciplinary emergency team.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Duty 1:Provides direct clinical support, acting as a resource to nurses, technicians, and other ED personnel.
  • Duty 2: Ensures adherence to evidence based practice standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements. Ensures the ED environment remains safe, organized, and compliant with infection control standards.
  • Duty 3: Monitors patient acuity and department volume, making real time decisions to maintain optimal patient flow.
  • Duty 4: Supports rapid clinical decision making during critical events (trauma activations, codes, disaster response).
  • Duty 5: Assists with scheduling, timekeeping, and coordination of staffing needs.Manages daily staffing assignments and adjusts resources based on acuity, volume, and staff skill mix.
  • Duty 6:Oversees patient throughput and partners with bed management, EMS, and inpatient units to reduce bottlenecks.
  • Duty 7: Identifies operational barriers and collaborates with leadership on process improvement initiatives.
  • Duty 8: Provides mentoring, coaching, and clinical development for ED team members.
  • Duty 9: Participates in hiring, onboarding, orientation, and ongoing competency validation.Conducts performance feedback, supports conflict resolution, and promotes a positive team culture.
  • Duty 10: Communicates important updates, changes, and expectations to staff on all shifts.Facilitates communication between frontline staff and leadership.
  • Duty 11: Monitors quality metrics (LWBS, door to doc, sepsis bundle compliance, pain management timeliness, etc.), ensures documentation standards are met and collaborates on chart audits or quality reviews.
  • Duty 12: Supports incident reporting, patient safety investigations, and service recovery efforts. Participates in drills and readiness activities for disaster and emergency management.


Required Qualifications

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical emergency nursing experience
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC certifications required
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision making skills
  • Ability to lead in high-stress, fast-paced emergency settings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and team management
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities
  • Working knowledge of ED workflows, triage, and emergency preparedness
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area’s policies and procedures


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent healthcare related degree
  • Previous charge nurse, preceptor, or informal leadership experience


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.

  • This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
