What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full-Time Protective Services Helpline Representative position at Blair Senior Services, Inc.?
Due to continued growth and increasing call volumes, the Pennsylvania Adult Protective Services Helpline is seeking professionals who can maintain composure and critical thinking while handling complex and distressing reports of abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exploitation involving vulnerable adults across the Commonwealth. This intake position plays a critical role in ensuring at-risk adults receive timely protection and access to appropriate services.
We are currently hiring full-time intake specialists for the following schedule:
Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Initial training will take place in person at our Altoona office. Following training, employees will work primarily from home. There are no sales, cold calls, or rotating shifts associated with this position. Intake staff receive calls directly from individuals seeking help.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional, empathetic & supportive assistance over the phone to individuals reporting concerns related to abuse.
- Conduct structured phone intake interviews by asking appropriate probing questions to gather required information
- Accurately and thoroughly document all information into a database
- Ensure information is routed to appropriate agencies for service referrals and/or investigations
- Manage emotionally sensitive conversations & very difficult subject matter with escalated callers with patience, empathy, and professionalism
- Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, make decisions in real time with established workflows, and meet strict documentation timelines
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- One year of relevant customer service or call-handling experience preferred
- Strong computer skills with the ability to work across multiple software systems simultaneously
- Excellent listening, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress or conflict-driven situations
- Commitment to providing outstanding, professional customer service
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting hourly wage: $14.16 – $16.99, depending on experience
- Generous paid time off is available immediately upon hire
