What are the responsibilities and job description for the Information Technology Support Specialist position at Blair IT?
Information Technology Support Specialist
Columbus, Ohio | In-Person | Full-Time
We are a 26 year old, family-owned IT support firm based in Columbus, Ohio, specializing in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. Our small, tight-knit team takes pride in delivering expert technology solutions to local businesses — and in knowing each other by name. We move fast, skip the corporate red tape, and genuinely enjoy what we do. If you want to grow your skills, make a real impact, and feel at home at work, you'll fit right in.
The RoleWe're looking for a skilled and curious IT Support Specialist to join our team. You'll be our clients' "Tech Hero" — traveling to local businesses, solving real problems, and keeping their technology running smoothly. No two days look the same. You'll work across Windows Servers, networking, high-end design workstations (AutoCAD, Revit), and typical office environments — all within the fast-paced AEC world.
What You'll Do• Administer and maintain network and data security, including firewalls, virus protection, and email security.
• Build and configure Windows-based servers, Active Directory, and small business networks.
• Provide hands-on technical support for Windows 11, Microsoft 365, hardware, software, and networking issues.
• Perform and verify data backups, system updates, and network improvements.
• Install and configure network and wireless equipment at client sites.
• Evaluate and resolve connectivity, software, and hardware issues — and recommend smart solutions.
• Collaborate with vendors, clients, and teammates to integrate technology and share knowledge.
• Support AEC-specific software environments (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam) — experience a plus, willingness to learn a must.
• 3 years of experience in an IT support or MSP role.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 administration.
• Solid networking fundamentals — firewalls, switches, wireless, VPNs.
• General hardware knowledge: build, configure, and troubleshoot workstations and servers.
• Microsoft 365 or Azure certification preferred (e.g., MS-900, AZ-900, MD-102, MS-102).
• CompTIA A , Network , or Security is a plus.
• Vendor certifications (SonicWall, Fortinet, Datto, ConnectWise, etc.) are welcome.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field preferred.
• Excellent communication skills — you'll be talking with clients, not just machines.
• A genuine curiosity for technology and a drive to keep learning.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed).
Salary: $58,000 – $72,000 based on experience
Benefits & Perks• Health, dental, and vision insurance
• Paid time off
• Mileage reimbursement for client-site travel
• Monthly phone stipend
• Hands-on, continuous learning environment — we invest in your growth
• Small team culture — low bureaucracy, high impact, direct access to leadership
• A company that has been around for 26 years and is built to last
If you're a problem-solver who takes pride in your work and wants to be part of a team that feels like family, we'd love to hear from you.
