Full-time, school year position. 40 hours per week as required by GSRP calendar.

General Summary:

The GSRP Lead Teacher will plan, organize, and manage all aspects of the GSRP classroom instruction.  This position reports directly to the TCAPS building Principal and TCAPS Licensed Child Care Director.   The GSRP Lead Instructor works collaboratively with kindergarten teachers and the North Ed  Early Childhood team to support district early childhood education initiatives.

 

Supervision Exercised:

The GSRP Lead Instructor is responsible for supporting the assistant teachers, service providers, and volunteers in the classroom.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop positive relationships with children, parents, staff members, administration, and community members through effective written communication as well as verbal and nonverbal interactions
  2. Create a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate classroom setting for children. 
  3. Implement all areas of provided curriculum including planning and assessments
  4. Collaborate with associate teachers and other staff to ensure program quality and compliance
  5. Plan and implement parent/child focused home visits and parent teacher conferences as required by GSRP implementation manual
  6. Treat all family information in a confidential, sensitive, and non-judgmental manner.
  7. Carries out educational and recreational activities both indoors and outdoors
  8. Provides diapering and toileting assistance
  9. Assists in maintaining a clean and safe facility / playground at all times
  10. Participate in staff-development and professional development activities as offered (up to 20 cock hours per year)
  11. Participate in building and district meetings as requested.
  12. Participate in IEPs as requested
  13. Adhere to all TCAPS,GSRP, and MiLEAP Child Care Licensing guidelines and procedures.
  14. Implement and enforce TCAPS District and building-level safety standards and behavior management techniques
  15. Administer children’s medication and First Aid as needed, and complete necessary State of Michigan and District-level documentation.
  16. Other duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age per MiLEAP Child Care Licensing regulations.
  2. Must obtain one of the following or be willing to obtain through a program issued Compliance Plan:

a. valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement, Birth-K, or PK-3 endorsement

b. bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching.                      i. transcript must document a major, rather than a minor, in child development or early childhood education

     3. Work experience in the field preferred, with skills in classroom management, curriculum planning, and supervision.

     4. Must have current First Aid and infant, child, an adult CPR training or be willing to obtain at next available offering

     5. Willing to complete up to 20 clock hours of professional development training, in addition to new hire requirements as required by MiLEAP Child Care Licensing regulations.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis. 
  2. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  3. Duties include frequent walking and physical activity, as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property, including sitting on the floor, bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students. 
  4. The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
  5. 4. Ability to communicate and work effectively with children, parents, colleagues, administrative staff and community members.
  6. Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  7. Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions. 
  8. Ability to work effectively and efficiently.

Environmental Conditions:

Incumbents work in indoor and outdoor school environments with moderate to loud noise levels, crowds and allergens. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures, including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students, school equipment, and office equipment. 

 

Work Schedules:

Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the district’s school year calendar. May require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends for school events or professional development activities.

The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
