School setting: Blair Academy is a co-educational, grade 9-12/postgraduate boarding school situated on 463 hilltop acres just minutes from the Delaware Water Gap and approximately one hour west of New York City. Position available: Blair Academy announces an opening for a mathematics teacher. We are searching for an enthusiastic, student-centered and collegial educator who will share in the responsibility of ensuring that our teaching of mathematics at Blair is inquiry-based, appropriately challenging and cohesive with the other mathematics classes in our sequence.

The strongest applicants will have the following qualifications:

  • A love for the subject of mathematics and drive to inspire in students intellectual curiosity and a lifelong appreciation of learning;
  • A passion for the discipline and a student-centered philosophy that centers on evidence-based instructional and assessment practices that support mastery, revision and meaningful engagement with mathematics;
  • An inquiry-based, interdisciplinary and versatile approach to and background in mathematics with the ability to teach students at all levels from introductory and advanced principles of algebra, geometry and calculus at the high school level;
  • A BA/BS in mathematics and/or an advanced degree in a related field;
  • An interest in creating dynamic and collaborative classrooms in which student discovery and critical thinking lead learning;
  • A willingness to actively contribute ideas during departmental collaboration and remain open to exploring and implementing new approaches to teaching and learning; and
  • A strong commitment to collaborating with colleagues to develop curricular materials.

  • Show an ability to juggle multiple priorities and responsibilities;
  • Engage in department meetings and activities to contribute to the effective functioning of the department and School;
  • Enjoy working with adolescent students in particular; and
  • Have a sense of humor.

Typical job responsibilities include:

  • Teaching four sections each semester;
  • Coaching or assisting with a sport for two seasons or with activities for three seasons;
  • Advising a group of six students; and
  • Providing weekly supervision for boarding students during some evening and weekend hours.

Salary & other compensation: Base pay range is $45,000 to $75,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to education and experience. Other compensation based on assigned job duties may include a stipend for dormitory work and other responsibilities not stated herein.

Benefits: Our robust benefits program includes, but is not limited to, on-campus housing (for most faculty positions) and three meals a day in our dining hall during the school year. A retirement plan, medical, dental, vision and disability insurance are available. Employees have use of our full fitness center, golf course and other campus facilities.
