Blackwater Communications is seeking a qualified Aerial Telecom Lineman to perform the installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial fiber optic and coaxial telecommunications infrastructure. This position involves physically demanding outdoor work at elevation and requires strict adherence to safety, regulatory, and quality standards.


Essential Job Functions
  • Perform aerial installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic and coaxial cable systems in accordance with company procedures, applicable codes, and safety regulations.
  • String, sag, dead-end, and reconductor aerial cable and related hardware.
  • Set poles, anchors, and associated structures as required by job scope.
  • Safely operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, pullers, tensioners, and related equipment.
  • Plan and execute work based on construction drawings, job prints, and work orders.
  • Conduct and participate in pre-job briefings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety meetings.
  • Establish and maintain safe work zones, including traffic control, in accordance with MUTCD and company requirements.
  • Perform basic bucket truck rescue and emergency escape procedures.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe, operable condition.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less-experienced crew members while working under the direction of a Foreman or Supervisor.
  • Participate in emergency restoration and storm response activities as required.
  • Exercise stop-work authority and immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses.


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of one (1) year of formal training or certification, or two (2) years of relevant on-the-job experience in aerial telecommunications or utility construction.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record in accordance with company policy and DOT/FMCSA requirements, where applicable.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a field crew in a safety-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to safely perform heavy lifting, rigging, and material handling tasks.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required by project needs.


Technical Knowledge & Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and job prints.
  • Working knowledge of grounding procedures, minimum approach distances, and electrical hazard awareness.
  • Understanding of induced voltage and energized line hazards.
  • Familiarity with dead-ending, sagging, and aerial line construction practices.
  • Ability to obtain and apply knowledge related to hot-stick work on energized lines, as required.
  • Knowledge of flag-and-tag procedures and traffic control requirements.


Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Perform all work in compliance with:
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926
  • National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), where applicable
  • DOT/FMCSA regulations, where applicable
  • MUTCD traffic control standards
  • Company safety policies and procedures
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to hard hats, fall protection, safety glasses, gloves, and high-visibility apparel.
  • Participation in mandatory safety training, meetings, and certifications.


Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, dig, reach, balance, push, and pull for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier loads with assistance, on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in sustained or awkward positions.
  • Ability to safely climb poles and ladders using approved climbing equipment and fall protection systems.


Working Conditions
  • Outdoor work performed in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and inclement weather.
  • Regular exposure to heights, electrical energy, vehicular traffic, heavy equipment, and construction hazards.
  • Work performed near roadways and active construction zones.


Preferred Qualifications

The following are nice-to-have but not required for this position.


  • Proficiency in pole and/or tower climbing.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Prior experience on utility-grade or large-scale telecommunications projects.
