The Extended Leave School Counselor/Curriculum Facilitator will be responsible for monitoring the academic, vocational, social, emotional, and behavioral progress of students reintegrating to school after an extended leave. This counselor will also coordinate make up work as the liaison between the student and faculty. The Extended Leave School Counselor/Curriculum Facilitator will use school data to develop and facilitate the implementation of a competency-based school 9-12 school counseling curriculum based on the National Standards as outlined by the American School Counselor Association.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Develop and implement each students re-entry plan (this plan should include consultation with outside agencies, the school counselor, parents and students and any other stakeholders) with clear expectations for reintegration expectations and timelines.
  • Communicate student needs and appropriate strategies, accommodations, and modifications to others in accordance with the students re-entry plan.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between faculty, parents and student regarding completion of assignments and assessments after negotiating with faculty essential work required to demonstrate mastery of the content.
  • Teach and model effective self-advocacy, organizational and compensatory strategies to students in order to increase independence and self-reliance during the re-integration process.
  • Develop a learning environment that promotes safety, confidentiality, respect, and celebrates achievement of personal goals.
  • Provide academic support and arrange for instructional support in content areas as needed.
  • Monitor and communicate student progress to members of students support team.
  • Complete all required reports and other documentation.
  • Contribute to extended leave program planning and development.
  • Interpret and utilize student data in order to facilitate appropriate student interventions.
  • Use technology resources to support and enhance the school counseling program.
  • Review student progress/achievement/performance as needed and initiate follow up in a timely manner.
  • Provide individual counseling to students with identified concerns or needs. Refer students to additional services and supports needed such as, school adjustment counseling, SBHC, or outside counseling services as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the School Crisis Team.
  • Participate in SRT.
  • Facilitate obtaining school counseling data, depression screenings, survey results, behavioral trends, discipline to determine school counseling curriculum and lessons for each school year.
  • Consult with career enrichment team and counseling team to schedule and implement school counseling curriculum.
  • Develop, maintain and facilitate implementation of a standards-based grade 9-12 school counseling curriculum to support the academic echnical work place readiness, personal and social competencies.
  • Develop and maintain the school counseling curriculum calendar.
  • Assess effectiveness of school counseling lessons through student surveys, etc.
  • Facilitate the MetroWest survey and follow up meetings for the district.
  • Maintain and safeguard student records in accordance with school and state policy.
  • Follow school counselor hours.

  • Minimum of Master's Degree in School Counseling or Counseling Psychology.
  • Certified by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as a School Guidance Counselor at the secondary level.
  • Knowledge of the National Standards for School Counselors.
  • Possess demonstrated successful professional counseling experience at the secondary school level.
  • Possess solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to inspire excellence, achieve consensus and respond effectively to the system's mission with humor and enthusiasm.
  • Knowledge of the MA Model of School Counseling.
  • Knowledge of/experience with development of career plans as outlined by the DESE.
  • Possess a professional and personal history which is exemplary and supported with references.
  • Strive to complete sixty (60) hours of professional development each year.

Compensation

  • Based on credentials, approvals and experience, the successful candidate will be paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School Teachers Association and the Blackstone Valley Regional School District Committee.
