Job Overview: The Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the daily operations of the Business Office. This role is responsible for general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, budget monitoring, grant compliance, and audit preparation in alignment with GAAP and public sector standards.
In addition, the Accountant is expected to: Maintain general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and year-end closingsManage accounts payable/receivable processes and ensure timely disbursements and collectionsEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local fiscal regulations and reporting requirementsPerforms sales and use tax compilation and reportingPerforms research and account analysis, as assignedAssists in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budgetSupport internal and external audit processes, ensuring the availability of accurate and comprehensive documentation while upholding the highest ethical and compliance standardsAdheres to the ethical standards of the professionMonitor revenue and expense activity to ensure proper set up and use of account codes to comply with the state mandated Uniform Chart of Accounts (UCOA).Assist in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including UCOA and grant reporting requirements.Collaborate with departments and school leaders to ensure proper use and oversight of fundsMaintains confidentiality at all times QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. Masters degree or CPA strongly preferred. Experience with RI Uniform Chart of Accounts strongly preferredMinimum of 3 years of accounting experience in a professional roleExperience in nonprofit or educational finance preferred.
