For the 2026-27 academic year, we are seeking either two part time or one full time Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a special education student in their final year of high school. This position is limited to the 2026-2027 school year. Candidates should enjoy working with teenagers, possess strong interpersonal communication skills and enthusiasm for learning. It is important that this person be well organized, creative, and flexible. The candidate must be patient yet assertive as appropriate. An openness to learning from educators and counseling specialists is key as the position will be well supported. A background in psychology or related studies are helpful. Ideal candidates would be neurodiverse affirming with some understanding of the neurodivergent brain and conditions like adhd and autism. They should be comfortable supporting students' work with a very individualized curriculum and working closely with guiding teachers and other colleagues. Blackstone’s faculty and staff consciously integrate social-emotional learning into the curriculum so applicants should have a firm understanding of the importance and power of social-emotional learning.
For part time candidates, a schedule might include Mondays and Fridays 7:45-3:00 or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45 to 3:00. We would add two hours for additional planning and meetings as needed for a total of 16 hours per person each week. While we feel 2 part time people would be ideal for this position, we will consider outstanding full time candidates as well. This schedule and position may be well suited to an advanced undergraduate student or graduate student.
