Band of Brothers Investment Group is seeking a Finance Controller to lead the day-to-day financial operations of our growing investment firm. As we scale our investment portfolio—particularly within multi-family real estate—we need a disciplined, detail-driven professional who can take command of financial systems, ensure compliance, and deliver leadership-level visibility into company performance.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting, cash management, internal controls, multi-entity and multi-family real estate accounting, and hands-on experience in financial software environments including AppFolio. This role works cross-functionally to support strategic decision-making and drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee and execute core accounting functions: GL, A/R, A/P, bank reconciliations, and payroll
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in compliance with GAAP
- Manage multi-family real estate financial workflows, including rent rolls, property-level ledgers, owner statements, and capital expenditure tracking
- Utilize AppFolio for property accounting, reporting, owner distributions, and financial review across multi-family assets
Financial Reporting & Controls
- Prepare timely financial statements and management reports
- Develop and implement internal controls, accounting policies, and operational procedures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements
- Generate AppFolio-based financial reports to support portfolio and investor-level insights
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the budgeting process and prepare rolling forecasts
- Analyze financial trends and variances to support business decisions
- Support investment analysis and capital planning across departments
- Forecast property performance, NOI, cash flow, and portfolio returns for multi-family assets
Audit & Risk Management
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors for annual filings
- Monitor risk exposure and ensure insurance, legal, and regulatory obligations are met
- Safeguard company assets through tight financial discipline and oversight
- Maintain compliance and documentation for multi-family real estate operations and AppFolio audit trails
Team Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with department heads to support financial planning and accountability
- Supervise junior finance staff or external accounting partners as needed
- Provide strategic insight to the CEO and partners on financial performance and opportunities
- Partner closely with property management teams to ensure accurate AppFolio setup, reporting accuracy, and operational alignment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in an investment or multi-entity environment
- Hands-on experience with AppFolio (property management accounting system required)
- Experience managing financials for multi-family real estate portfolios
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, AppFolio, or comparable platforms)
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities
- High attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in real estate, private equity, or multi-entity accounting
- Exposure to property management systems and multi-family operations, with AppFolio expertise strongly preferred
- Familiarity with investor reporting and fund accounting structures
- Prior work in a fast-growing or startup investment firm
