We're looking for an experienced Senior Project Controls Specialist who’s ready to step into a role that has real influence over project success. If you enjoy partnering closely with project managers, shaping project plans, and ensuring cost and schedule performance stay on track, this role will give you the ownership and visibility you’re looking for.
What You’ll Do:
In this position, you’ll support projects from initiation through close-out, providing expertise across cost management, change management, reporting, and progress measurement. You’ll help build the project controls structure from the ground up and work with teams across engineering, procurement, construction, and accounting to ensure accuracy and alignment.
You'll be responsible for:
- Developing the project controls organizational structure and staffing needs
- Building a full understanding of overall project scope
- Reviewing estimates and mapping them to the control WBS
- Setting up WBS and budgets in SAP and communicating WBS requirements to schedulers and contractors
- Creating and maintaining the full project controls plan
- Participating in project assurance reviews and providing feedback to improve documentation
- Reviewing schedules, maintaining key milestones, and helping shape baselines
- Ensuring projects maintain appropriate AFE funding
- Updating time-phased budgets and estimate-to-complete forecasts
- Managing requisitions for materials and services
- Reporting incurred costs and analyzing variances
- Monitoring cost vs. budget and updating cost management systems
- Reviewing invoices for alignment with actual project performance
- Analyzing gaps between RFP estimates and awarded contracts
- Providing input into estimate-at-completion and evaluating contractor cost/progress
- Applying earned value management principles and defining rules of credit
- Tracking cost and performance metrics to spot trends early
- Evaluating allowances, escalation, and contingency
- Managing the project trend log and reviewing change orders
- Supporting HRIM and QRA processes with updated budgets and forecasts
- Collaborating with all project disciplines to support forecasting
- Contributing to monthly reporting packages and recommending improvements
- Coaching junior and intermediate project controls professionals
- Presenting project updates to senior management
- Ensuring clean and complete project close-out
What You Bring:
- A university degree and 8–15 years of related experience
- Experience working on moderate- to high-risk capital projects
- Field experience is an asset
- Strong understanding of earned value management, cost control, forecasting, and project performance measurement
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary project environment
- Familiarity with SAP and project controls systems
