Electrical Engineer IV – Pump Stations

Location: Houston, TX - Hybrid

Type: Contract (W-2 benefits, PTO, 401k, paid holidays)

Pay: $55hr - $66/hr


The Electrical Engineer will support the design and execution of liquids pipeline pump station expansion and maintenance projects. In this role, you will serve as the owner's electrical engineering representative, overseeing third-party engineering firms and ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective designs. This position blends technical expertise, project coordination, design review, and field support.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee electrical design for liquids pump station facilities, ensuring compliance with company standards, industry codes, and all applicable regulations.
  • Manage and direct third-party engineering firms, ensuring electrical design deliverables meet project scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Design and review electrical components and system interconnects, including power distribution, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, switchgear, grounding, and lighting systems.
  • Review and approve drawings, calculations, technical reports, one-lines, and material lists.
  • Participate in design review meetings with Project Management, Operations, Construction, and external engineering partners to resolve technical and constructability issues.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and perform technical bid analyses for equipment such as motors, VFDs, generators, transformers, buildings, cable systems, and electrical components.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Operations, Controls/SCADA, Civil, Mechanical) to ensure integrated, operable, and maintainable facility designs.
  • Support project scoping, procurement activities, construction, and commissioning with occasional field visits.
  • Identify, document, and implement lessons learned to promote continuous improvement in design and execution.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives and improvements as needed


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 4 years of engineering experience within pipelines, oil & gas, power systems, industrial facilities, or similar heavy-industrial environments.
  • Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70 and relevant electrical industry standards.
  • Experience with power distribution systems, motor control, grounding, and related electrical infrastructure.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet time-sensitive deliverables, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and common engineering tools/drawings.


Preferred

  • Experience overseeing or coordinating third-party engineering firms.
  • Familiarity with pump stations, rotating equipment, or similar facility environments.
  • Experience reviewing or supporting power system studies (arc flash, short circuit, coordination).
  • Field experience supporting construction, commissioning, or troubleshooting.
