About this role
The Social Impact team is responsible for the overseeing the broad philanthropic program at BlackRock, including staffing support for the BlackRock Foundation and managing the company's donor advised fund. The team manages both short-term and long-term corporate philanthropic grantmaking, employee giving, and global volunteering. Social Impact coordinates with Marketing, Comms, and Global Public Policy to amplify the impact of the firm's philanthropic investments in regional and local communities. The team also coordinates governance of the BlackRock Foundation Board.
This Vice President, reporting into a Managing Director will be responsible for the day-to-day financial and operations management of Social Impact programs globally as they relate to the BlackRock Foundation and the BlackRock Charitable Fund, a donor advised fund ("DAF"). The role includes the oversight of governance processes for the BlackRock Foundation and management of the relationships across internal functions that support Foundation operations. The leader will be responsible for ensuring that compliance-related requirements for private foundations are met, including the annual filing of the Foundation tax return, and that all operational aspects of the Foundation are professionally run following governance procedures and best in class risk management practices. In this capacity, this individual will interface regularly with firm leaders across multiple functions, as well as meet with external vendors and oversee regular meetings of the Social Impact and Foundation Investment Committees. They may also represent Social Impact/the Foundation with the Board, clients, and other parties. The individual will also oversee the processing and reporting on all philanthropic spend from the DAF, including grants and employee programs such as matching gifts.
Responsibilities:
Financial Planning & Reporting: Cashflow Payments
- Prepare annual budgets (DAF and Foundation) based upon existing grant commitments and input from grant and engagement teams on projected new spend
- Anticipate cashflow needs from the DAF and Foundation and coordinate execution with the BlackRock investment management team
- Supervise payment process for all DAF/Foundation/P&L commitments
- Coordinate financial reporting and accounting processes for the BlackRock Foundation with Finance team
The BlackRock Foundation: Governance Compliance
- Manage calendar, scope, and materials for quarterly Investment Committee and Board meetings, along with any quarterly subcommittee meetings, including coordination of any required review by other internal functions
- Manage relationship with external audit/tax prep firm and coordinate processes for annual audit and tax filings for the Foundation
- Ensure that other annual requirements are fulfilled (e.g., collect information on employee contributed time, insurance renewal, review of policies)
- Keep current process manuals and governance documentation
Business Planning & Reporting: Vendors, Platforms, Business Reviews
- Ensure that all grant agreements are executed on a timely basis and include appropriate metrics and reporting requirements
- Oversee grants management platform relationships (e.g., Versaic, Benevity)
- Oversee third party vendor onboarding (e.g., board placement programs)
- Conduct periodic vendor reviews to ensure best in class infrastructure and adequate risk management
- Monitor and evolve processes for spend and grants tracking and program reporting
- Periodically review and update governance processes and polices with Legal and supervise implementation
- Manage input for corporate disclosures and certifications
Requirements:
- 6 years of industry work experience, preferably in a financial services organization or a corporate foundation
- Bachelor's degree
- Excellent analytical and written communication skills, with aptitude to convey complex concepts simply and clearly
- Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail
- Prior experience managing cross-business and cross-functional projects preferred, team player with collaborative attitude
- Mature demeanor, comfortable working with senior leaders
- Self-starter with high level of independence, ability to innovate, work under pressure, and comfortable taking ownership and primary responsibility for deliverables
- Ambitious approach to large, complex projects, with strong problem solving skills
- Ability to perform under high-pressure situations and tight deadlines
- Sense of humor appreciated
For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $142,500 - $190,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
