Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Planning
- Design and develop short- and long-term mine plans, including panel layouts, ventilation systems, and ground control strategies.
- Conduct geotechnical analysis to ensure safe roof, rib, and floor conditions.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, production schedules, and reserve calculations.
- Evaluate mining methods (e.g., longwall, room-and-pillar) for efficiency and safety improvements.
- Collaborate with mine supervisors to monitor daily production and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Analyze performance data to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
- Support equipment selection, utilization, and maintenance planning.
- Ensure all engineering designs and operations comply with MSHA regulations and company safety standards.
- Conduct hazard assessments and participate in incident investigations.
- Develop and implement ventilation plans and dust control strategies to maintain safe working conditions.
- Manage engineering projects such as new panel development, infrastructure improvements, and system upgrades.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
- Track project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, maps, and reports.
- Prepare regulatory submissions and documentation as required.
- Provide technical reports and presentations to management.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field (required)
- 3-10 years of experience in underground coal mining (preferred, level dependent on role)
- Experience with longwall and/or room-and-pillar mining methods
- MSHA certifications as required
