Job Summary
Blackburn Heat & Air is seeking a dedicated Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Helper to support our skilled technicians in installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the HVAC industry while working alongside experienced professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, basic construction knowledge, and a willingness to learn specialized skills such as refrigeration, plumbing, and equipment repair. A valid driver’s license is preferred for this role.
Duties
- Assist with the installation and servicing of HVAC systems, including air conditioning units, boilers, and refrigeration equipment
- Support technicians in troubleshooting using schematics and HVAC design plans
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on HVAC equipment and related property systems
- Help with plumbing connections and repairs as needed for HVAC setups
- Use tools such as ohmmeters and welding equipment to repair or modify components
- Support in the operation of ammonia refrigeration systems and other specialized HVAC/R applications
- Aid in the repair and maintenance of mechanical systems including boilers and appliances
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety protocols at all times
- Assist with field service tasks including property maintenance and appliance repair
Skills
- Basic construction skills with an understanding of schematics and HVAC design principles
- Experience or familiarity with service technician work, property maintenance, or appliance repair is a plus
- Mechanical knowledge related to HVAC systems, refrigeration, plumbing, and boiler operations
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for equipment troubleshooting
- Proficiency with tools such as ohmmeters, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail in equipment repair and maintenance tasks
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with team members and clients
- Valid driver’s license preferred for transportation between job sites
