Job Overview
The Underground Utility / Pipe Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising underground utility crews performing the installation of water, sewer, storm drainage, and fire line systems. This position oversees daily field operations, ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications, and provides hands-on leadership to the crew. The ideal candidate has strong underground utility experience, the ability to operate heavy equipment, and the leadership skills necessary to keep projects moving and completed on schedule.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise, coordinate, and direct underground utility crews on daily job activities.
- Manage the installation of water lines, sewer lines, storm drainage systems, and fire line systems.
- Read and interpret plans, blueprints, specifications, and site layouts.
- Ensure work is completed correctly, efficiently, and within project timelines.
- Operate and assist with heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, skid steers, and other construction equipment as needed.
- Perform and oversee trenching, pipe installation, grading, backfilling, and site preparation activities.
- Ensure proper installation methods, alignment, elevations, and connections of underground piping systems.
- Assign tasks to crew members and monitor productivity throughout the workday.
- Train, coach, and provide direction to crew members to maintain quality workmanship.
- Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing company safety policies and proper OSHA procedures.
- Coordinate with project managers, inspectors, and other contractors as needed.
- Identify and resolve field issues to prevent delays and keep projects progressing.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials to ensure proper job readiness.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Underground Utility Foreman, Pipe Foreman, or similar leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of underground utility construction practices.
- Experience installing water, sewer, storm drainage, and fire protection lines.
- Ability to operate heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a construction crew.
- Strong understanding of pipe grades, elevations, and utility layouts.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and make decisions in the field.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
