Job Description
Salary Range: $65,000 to 75,000
Position: Social Service Director - 60 to 200 BED MENS SHELTER IN BROOKLYN
Reports to: Regional Director, Director
Prepared Date: 2025
Functions
1. Directs and operates social services at BVSJ Assessment program.
2. Responsible for the operation of the facility in the Director's absence.
3. Assists the Director in the general administration and policies and procedures of the social service program.
4. Responsible for reporting, as required by DHS, NYSDSS and the Assessment Shelter.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for staff recruitment.
2. Maintains linkages with other providers and develops plans for housing, employment,
substance abuse, and recreational staff.
3. Supervises all social service staff to program guidelines and policies, including all case
management, employment, housing, substance abuse, and recreation staff.
4. Assures meals meet resident nutritional requirements.
5. Assists with staff development through training.
6. Provides counseling and crisis intervention when needed.
7. Maintains the development of statistics aimed at monitoring operational goals and
performance criteria.
8. Maintains and signs off on service plans upon entry and upon updates.
9. Monitors and reviews case records for compliance as required by DHS and NYSDS and
Assessment Shelter.
10. Manages and oversees intake functions.
11. Other dues and assignments deemed necessary at the discretion of the Shelter director.
Effect on End Results
1. The assessment shelter will have a qualified complement of staffing.
2. Assessment, Diversion, and Referral networks operate to maximum efficiency and expertise.
3. Staff is properly trained in their job functions.
4. Oversight agencies receive appropriate operational and management information.
5. ILP's are up to date and compliant.
6. Clients sign appropriate documentation and are referred for medical and psychiatric
evaluations.
Minimum Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Social Work with three (3) years’ experience in a program serving the homeless or similar population; -or- a High School diploma, or equivalent, and three (3) years’ experience in a residential program serving the homeless or similar population.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
