The Mission
Black Spear Intelligence is expanding its regional footprint with a new office serving Birmingham and the surrounding Alabama market. We are seeking an experienced, resourceful, and self-motivated private investigator to become our primary field investigator in the region.
Unlike a traditional employment position, this opportunity is designed for an established professional who can operate independently, handle assignments with minimal supervision, and help us develop a strong presence in the Alabama market.
This is a newly established office. Initial assignments will be on an as-needed basis, with case volume expected to develop as we expand our client relationships. We are looking for the right professional to grow alongside us, not someone seeking guaranteed full-time hours.
The Opportunity
As our primary Birmingham-area investigator, you will be responsible for handling field assignments and representing Black Spear Intelligence's standards of professionalism and investigative excellence.
Our primary focus is surveillance and field investigations, with additional opportunities involving:
- Surveillance & Insurance Investigations
- Domestic & Family Law Investigations
- Skip Tracing, Locates & Background Investigations
- Criminal & Civil Investigations
- Corporate Investigations & Due Diligence
- OSINT & Specialized Research
- Process Service
Candidates with experience across multiple investigative disciplines are especially desirable.

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking an experienced investigator, not an entry-level candidate or intern.
The ideal candidate will have a proven investigative background, strong field skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently without constant direction.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Prior professional investigative experience, preferably in surveillance and field investigations.
- Ability to perform mobile and stationary surveillance effectively.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce accurate, detailed investigative reports.
- Professional discretion, sound judgment, and strict confidentiality.
- Reliable transportation, appropriate investigative equipment, and the ability to travel throughout the Birmingham metropolitan area.
- Flexible availability, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with case management.
- Must meet all applicable Alabama legal and regulatory requirements for performing private investigative services.
- Must reside in Birmingham or the surrounding metropolitan area.
Experience with insurance defense investigations, domestic surveillance, or attorney-directed investigations is a significant advantage.
