About Black Mountain Academy

Black Mountain Academy is a year-round therapeutic boarding school that supports neurodiverse high school students—primarily assigned male at birth—in developing social, emotional, academic, and life skills. Our relationship-based approach and hands-on learning environment empower students to grow, explore, and thrive. As a Residential Coach, you’ll join a close-knit, supportive school community where your work directly impacts students’ personal and academic journeys.

Position Overview

We are seeking compassionate, dedicated Residential Coaches to provide mentorship, supervision, and support to students in our residential program. This role is ideal for individuals who are student-centered, empathetic, and excited to make a difference.

Responsibilities

  • Support students through daily routines, academic activities, and personal development goals.
  • Lead or assist with recreational, service-learning, and adventure-based programs.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and emotional support to help students meet therapeutic and educational goals.
  • Prepare simple meals and assist with light cleaning and residential tasks.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive environment in both residential and campus settings.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure continuity of care and positive student outcomes.

Shifts Available

  • Weekday Afternoon/Evening: 3:30 PM – 10:30 PM (11:30am-10:30pm on Fridays)
  • Weekend Shifts: 8:30 AM – 10:30 PM

Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Empathetic, reliable, and enthusiastic with strong communication skills.
  • Student-centered mindset and a desire to work with neurodiverse youth.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a therapeutic residential school environment.
  • Previous experience in behavioral health, mental health, or residential education is a plus but not required.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening (including THC) and background check.

Pay & Benefits

  • Starting at $19.00/hour (depending on experience; discussed during interview).
  • Therapeutic training provided—no prior experience required.
