The Lead Facilities Custodian at the Quad – Cities Campus serves as the lead worker for the custodial department staff; provides feedback to the Facilities Superintendent; represents the Superintendent when coordinating with staff, faculty, students, and vendors in order to coordinate work requirements, setups, special projects and other custodial-related functions; resolves operational problems.DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Serves as the lead worker and responsible for keeping assigned areas neat and clean, including vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing and reconditioning all of carpeted and hard surface floors; dusting, polishing and vacuuming of all furniture, doors, walls; washing of light fixtures and windows; dumping all waste containers and recycling containers and hauling same to proper disposal areas.
- Responsible for overseeing that custodial work is done within the established written and practiced operating procedures.
- Makes independent decisions pertaining to standard custodial matters and takes appropriate actions to complete custodial tasks; reports significant operational or procedural shortfalls to the Superintendent.
- Responsible for reading, interpreting, and communicating custodial procedures to include assigned work orders and other written directions and instructions to custodial staff members.
- Responsible for inventorying of supplies, materials, and equipment for custodial needs; makes recommendations to the Superintendent on improvements on quantity and/or quality of custodial items where appropriate; coordinates orders with Superintendent and appropriate vendors as necessary.
- Responsible for assessing, reporting, and making recommendations on all matters pertaining to custodial work to the Superintendent.
- Responsible for custodial maintenance, repair, and/or set-ups; operates all power and manual equipment as necessary to complete tasks.
- Takes all reasonable safety and health precautions to minimize injury of all personnel; ensures all personnel work in a safe and hygienic manner; reports all violations promptly to the Superintendent.
- Responsible for locking and unlocking doors. Responsible for reporting building security issues to Police.
- Works an effective team member with other custodians and supervisor and communicates issues and concerns regarding assigned duties to Lead Facilities Custodian or Facilities Superintendent.
- Responsible for following all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.
- Attends required trainings as needed.
- Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
- Assists Superintendent with developing shift schedules and prioritization of duties.
- Assists Superintendent with maintaining, enforcing, and updating established written and practiced operating procedures.
- Assists with yard work, maintenance duties, equipment maintenance; performs snow removal using appropriate equipment as needed.
- Serves on Recycling Committee.
- Trains new and current staff and keeps staff up-to-date on job-related information.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.
- Previous custodial service experience is required.
- Basic ability to use Microsoft Office required.
- Physically capable of completing major responsibilities listed above in a timely, efficient manner.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds frequently required.
- Ability to make decisions and implement them and fulfill requirements to complete assignments.
- Ability to follow instructions and assume responsibility required.
- Must be dependable and punctual in reporting to and leaving work.
- Must be a team player.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand directions written in English.
- Valid driver’s license required.
