BLACK COPPER is a multidisciplinary arts organization dedicated to amplifying diverse voices in the global art landscape. Through our biannual magazine, exhibitions, and publishing initiatives, we celebrate the stories and contributions of artists and creatives of African, Caribbean, Latin American, Indigenous, First Nations, Intercultural, and MENA heritage.
The Grants & Development Intern supports Black Copper’s fundraising efforts by assisting with grant research, organizing funding opportunities, and preparing application materials.
This role focuses on building and maintaining systems that support Black Copper’s growth, while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit development and grant writing.
This is an ideal role for someone interested in arts administration, fundraising, and working behind the scenes to support a growing cultural organization.
- Research grant opportunities across arts, culture, publishing, and community program sectors
- Assist in building and maintaining a Grant Tracker in Monday, including:
- Deadlines
- Eligibility criteria
- Required materials
- Award amounts
- Application links
- Monitor upcoming deadlines and flag priority opportunities
- Assist in drafting and editing grant materials, including:
- Organizational descriptions
- Program summaries
- Supporting narratives
- Help organize and maintain a library of reusable language (mission, boilerplates, program descriptions)
- Prepare draft materials for review by leadership
- Assist in identifying potential individual donors, small foundations, and aligned organizations
- Support basic research on funders, including giving interests and past grants
- Help organize donor and funder information within internal systems
- Maintain organized development files across Drive, Notion, and Monday
- Prepare short research summaries and deadline reminders
- Support general development-related tasks as needed
- Strong interest in nonprofit development, grant writing, or arts administration
- Strong writing and research skills
- Highly organized with attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Comfortable working independently with structured check-ins
- Familiarity with Google Workspace; Notion or Monday.com a plus
- Interest in arts, culture, and equity-driven work
