Unpaid/Volunteer Black Cannabis Week Social Media Team

Black Cannabis Week (BCW) was founded to address the growing gap between emerging opportunities and the communities most impacted by criminalization. What began as conversations among advocates, educators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders evolved into a movement for collective advancement.

Since 2018, BCW has grown into a national platform rooted in Philadelphia. We bring together policymakers, entrepreneurs, students, artists, wellness practitioners, and changemakers. Through education, entrepreneurship, advocacy, wellness, and culture, we create spaces for meaningful collaboration. Our mission is to build pathways for equity, opportunity, leadership, and lasting community impact.

BCW is looking to build out a new, volunteer (unpaid) social media team to support media infrastructure surrounding our two main events: (1) The Daily Dose Tour, a segment of mini-conferences staged in select Northeast cities leading up to the (2) main September conference in Philadelphia.

Nick, the social media lead reporting to event organizer Brandi, and new to the Black Cannabis Week team, is a creative with marketing and media experience inside and outside the cannabis ecosystem. He is supporting the development of this volunteer social committee. He will be working with committee members to strategize, create, and publish organic and paid content. His focus will be to set the group up for success and act in a behind-the-scenes advisory role so that team members can get a platform to create true impact for the organization and community.

The structure of this team is to plan out content several weeks, if not months, ahead of time. There will be more boots-on-the-ground, ad hoc content as in-person and partnered events arrive in September. The team will consist of a coordinator, designer, and strategist, all equally reporting to Nick. You will be asked to attend a weekly check-in dependent on everyone’s availability, with more check-ins closer to Black Cannabis Week in September.

Social media coordinator

Responsibilities:

• Ideate and execute content strategy to support BCW’s initiatives, including events, as well as partnerships and continued year-round support;
• Curate content from existing libraries of assets;
• Capture net-new, social-specific content at our events in September;
• Work in a public-facing position representing Black Cannabis Week;
• Comfortable being on camera, live streaming,
• Community engagement/management.

Qualifications: Background in social media influencing and content creation, strong communication skills, and the ability to respond to messages within a few hours. Philadelphia, PA local.

Estimated time commitment: Ongoing 2-4 hours per week. We won’t lie, it is anticipated that you may spend 7-10 hours per week for 1-3 weeks leading up to the conference in late September, and possibly 10-15 hours (or more) during Black Cannabis Week itself. Know that this is only to get good coverage of the event — it is NOT an ongoing expectation that you commit this much time year-round. That’s not to say we can’t get volunteers to help with coverage, or get partners to supply us content. If you’re interested, we are flexible and will figure it out together.
