About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Estimator to join our team, specializing in civil construction and heavy highway projects. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates and bid proposals for roadway construction, earthwork, grading, drainage, underground utilities, and other heavy civil infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will be able to interpret construction plans and specifications, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing, and develop comprehensive estimates to support successful project bidding.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil, highway, and heavy civil construction projects.
- Review plans, specifications, bid documents, addenda, and project requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, excavation, embankments, grading, paving, drainage, utilities, concrete, and other civil construction activities.
- Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and trucking cost estimates.
- Analyze production rates, crew compositions, equipment requirements, and construction methods.
- Utilize HeavyBid or similar estimating software to prepare, organize, and manage competitive bids.
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor, supplier, trucking, and equipment quotations.
- Coordinate with operations, project management, and field personnel to validate estimating assumptions and construction approaches.
- Identify scope gaps, potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value-engineering alternatives.
- Prepare bid summaries, cost breakdowns, and supporting documentation for management review.
- Maintain organized estimating records, historical cost data, and production information.
- Assist with bid reviews, bid-day coordination, and the handoff of awarded projects to the operations team.
Qualifications
- Experience in construction estimating, preferably in civil construction, heavy highway, or heavy civil infrastructure.
- Knowledge of roadway construction, earthwork, grading, drainage, underground utilities, and paving operations.
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing detailed cost estimates.
- Proficiency with HeavyBid is strongly preferred; experience with comparable estimating software will also be considered.
- Understanding of labor productivity, equipment costs, material pricing, subcontractor quotes, and construction means and methods.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and meet strict bid submission deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with estimating, operations, and management teams.

Pay: $68,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
