Role Description
BKS seeks a dedicated Public Agency General Counsel Associate for a full-time, hybrid role. This position involves providing comprehensive legal counsel to public agencies, including advising on governance, regulatory compliance, land use issues, and risk management. The attorney will draft and review legal documents, manage issues related to water law and other public agency matters, and help clients resolve disputes.
Associate Compensation Range: $142,500-191,000, based on experience
Bonus Structure: Ability to earn a non-discretionary bonus for hours billed above 1,600 billable hours. The firm may also approve additional discretionary bonuses for superior firm and client work.

What We Are Looking For
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
- At least two-three years of experience providing clients general counsel advice, preferably in advising public agencies or comparable entities in California
- Knowledge of key areas of public sector law is a plus, including the Ralph M. Brown Act, California Public Records Act, and California Environmental Quality Act
- Demonstrated ability to draft and review complex contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and policies
- Excellent legal research, writing, and verbal communication skills
- High level of integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to public service
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Salary : $142,500 - $191,000
