This GA position is available to those pursuing post-graduate studies at Bob Jones University.
POSITION SUMMARY: Nine-month, academic graduate assistant energized by the opportunity to help freshmen succeed through facilitating En 101 and 102, grading, and meeting one-on-one. Position begins August 2026. This 9-month Academic GA position is available only to those pursuing post-graduate studies at Bob Jones University. Candidates must be available for at least 30 hours each week.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meeting regularly with students on an individual basis for tutoring/mentoring
- Grading assigned compositions and providing direct feedback to students, both orally and in writing
- Staffing the Writing Center
- Clerical responsibilities in En 101 or En 102 classes
- Taking and reporting attendance
- Distributing handouts
- Collecting papers and exercises
- Monitoring student submissions to Canvas
- Grading quizzes and tests (GradeMaster)
- Performing any other tasks as assigned by the lecture professor, the division chair, or the dean
- Performing university-related duties as assigned (e.g., student check-in in August, AACS in April)
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Critical thinking and reading skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Communication skills in one-on-one tutoring situations
- Ability to write academic prose well
- Proficient in Microsoft Word
