What are the responsibilities and job description for the BJA Elementary Late Stay Assistant (Student) position at BJU, Inc.?
SUMMARY: Supervise elementary age children by learning the students’ names, leading group activities, giving devotionals, enforcing expectations, and keeping an accurate record of how long each child stays.
- This position qualifies for the Federal Work-Study program which is given to students who demonstrate a significant financial need based upon their FAFSA calculation. In addition, students must indicate on their FAFSA that they are interested in "work-study". The starting wage for all Federal Work-Study positions is $10 an hour for the state of South Carolina.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Group Leader
- Leads grade restroom breaks
- May organize/ref group game indoors or outdoors
- Stay flexible and ready to serve as situations change
- Connect with kids by playing, talking, and speaking truth even in corrections
Car Line
- Verifies parents’ car tags
- Calls for students over the radio
- Double checks on cars that have been waiting a while for their child
- Needs to be able to think clearly and respond graciously under pressure
Desk
- Keeps a detailed record of the times that each child was checked in
- Clocks each child in and out with timekeeping system
- Needs to be able to think clearly under pressure
All positions need to be interested in working with children and have a desire to have an impact on them for Christ.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must be enrolled as a student at Bob Jones University
- Must be at least 18 years of age and completed high school
- Christ like testimony and unwavering integrity
- Desire to learn & improve
- Genuine love for students
- Experience working with students (esp. ages 6-12) is desirable, but not required
- Able to stand, walk, and be outside for long periods of time
- Endurance in a rambunctious environment
- Sensitivity to calendar differences between BJU breaks and BJA work responsibilities
Desk or Carline
- Experience working in a pressured environment where attention to detail is important (i.e. a fast food restaurant)
