Join our specialized 19-bed Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) caring for high-acuity patients recovering from:
- Abdominal Transplant (TXP): Kidney, liver, and pancreas transplants
- Hepatobiliary Surgery (HPB): Liver resections, Whipple procedures, and pancreatectomies
- ENT Surgery: Fresh tracheostomies, laryngectomies, free flaps, and complex head and neck surgeries
- Plastic & Orthopedic Microsurgery: Limb and digit replants, flap procedures, nerve transfers, and leech therapy
- General Surgery/Trauma/Geriatric Trauma (ACCS): MVC, polytrauma, GSW, TBI, SDH s/p falls, emergent VHR

Overview
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
163PCU is a 19 bed surgical progressive care unit. The patient population is comprised of acutely ill surgical patients requiring a higher level of nursing care and monitoring. This unit primarily cares for post-op patients admitted to the Abdominal Transplant, Hepatobiliary Surgery, ENT/Plastics Surgery and Ortho-micro Surgery teams. Secondary, this unit manages critical care needs for patients admitted to the Trauma/ACCS/Geriatric Trauma Surgery teams, Orthopedic-Spine/Recon/Hand etc. teams as well as Vascular Surgery and other overflow teams.
