What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Navigator - PRN position at BJC HealthCare?
- Shift information: PRN Shift - required to pick up two shifts each 6-week schedule period. We are 24/7 service line. Hours will vary on what shifts and days are available.
- Type of Clients: This position supports our QMHP/(Virtual Licensed Intake Specialists) in the Behavioral Health Intervention Services department. QMHPs complete assessments and evaluate patients in crisis across 13 BJC facilities and Behavioral Health Navigators are the gatekeepers to get mental health patients assessed.
- Must Live in MO or Illinois
- Who will this person interact with on a regular basis: Other teammates, hospital physicians and APP staff, nurses, unit secretaries, psychiatry vendors, St. Louis Children’s Hospital staff and other external intake departments in order to transfer patients.
- Ideal Skill Set: Good communication skills, strong technology skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, competency in Microsoft 365
- Job responsibilities: Navigate new client consults, calling outside facilities for bed availability, faxing charts to potential facilities, updating telepsychiatry spreadsheet and ensure accuracy, attend St. Louis Children’s Hospital meetings and Telepsychiatry meetings if working during those hours, constant communication with team and keeping our BJC facilities updated on status of patients. Strong Customer and follow up skills required
Overview
BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.

This position facilitates the linkage of the patient to a qualified mental health professional, who will evaluate and determine the needs of the patient. This position also assists patients and families to identify the various resources and services available in the local community.
