Overview
Provides
comprehensive civil/structural engineering design services for substation
and/or transmission facilities, and to ensure that these facilities are
constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· For
substation and transmission projects: (30%)
· Provides
civil engineering expertise to develop plans for sitework including grading,
off-site improvements, drainage facilities, fencing and block walls, and
landscaping. In addition, completes calculations and prepares designs for
substation steel structures, foundations, and control enclosures.
· Provides
civil engineering expertise to transmission line engineering analysis, route
analysis and selection, calculations for line design (includes structure
loading, foundation design and conductor sag), specifies materials and
evaluates bid documents and technical submittals, and completes the
construction package.
· Acquires
all necessary construction approvals and permits from the authority having
jurisdiction.
· Develops
economical, technically feasible, reliable transmission and substation
civil/structural designs with moderate supervision and guidance. Applies
engineering principles, theories and concepts in the design of transmission,
and substation civil projects. (30%)
· Assists
in scoping, routing, and siting substation and transmission line projects and
evaluates alternatives in order to find the best value. (10%)
· Provides
accurate cost estimates and schedule input for use in company budgeting
procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified. (10%)
· Assists
in the creation and improvements of substation and transmission standards and
specifications. (10%)
· Coordinates
and interacts professionally with internal and external customers and
stakeholders to ensure a successful project. (10%)
· Ensures
all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and
complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and
company.
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
· Education
and Work Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited
school and one to four years industry experience.
Specialized
Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of:
· Utility
setting with specific experience in the areas of civil, structural and/or
transmission engineering design. Electrical utility experience preferred.
· Analytical,
interpersonal and communication.
· Equipment
and Applications PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and software for
structural steel design, foundation design, transmission line design, hydrology
and hydraulics
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Travel
may be required up to 25% of work hours and may consist of travel to remote
parts of Nevada in order to scope substation sites or transmission alignments
and support design and construction. Walking over rugged terrain at high
elevation may be required.
