Job Description
The
Capital Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of capital
accounting, including the accurate recording, reporting, and compliance of
capital expenditures and fixed assets. This role ensures adherence to
Regulatory Accounting ASC 980 and supports audits and financial reporting
related to capital projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct oversight and
management of the Capital and Project Accounting Team members (three).
- Review, approval, and posting
of key journal entries and reconciliations prepared by senior team members
(includes CWIP, plant in service, depreciation, construction overhead,
AFUDC, lease accounting)
- Manage capital accounting
functions, including tracking capital expenditures and reconciling general
ledger accounts.
- Prepare balance sheet
reconciliations in Blackline, respective SOX Controls
- Maintain and improve fixed
asset accounting processes, including asset capitalization, depreciation,
and retirements.
- Attend Accounting Management
meetings, close related meetings, and Involvement in planned and ad-hoc
company projects and initiatives
- Collaborate with project
managers, finance teams, and external stakeholders to ensure accurate
financial tracking of capital projects.
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- At least 8 years of
experience, including prior supervisory and accounting oversight
experience, and at least two years in Fixed Asset Accounting
- Software: Excel and SAP
preferred, Powerplan preferred
- Industries: Utilities
preferred but not required
