About this role
We are seeking to hire Spring interns to work in our Underwriting department. Interns will learn the fundamentals of Small Business Underwriting. Interns will focus primarily on underwriting and performing detailed financial analysis on small businesses, including trend and ratio analysis, and interpreting the financial information to determine credit quality and cash flow. Interns will receive foundational underwriting training with the goal of securing a position within our Underwriting organization.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Team Leaders in structuring, analyzing, and negotiating credit transactions.
- Learning how to conduct full cycle underwriting of assigned small business financing.
- Under Direct supervision, learn how to determine the ability of the client to repay financing based on analysis of the client's cash flow statements, tax returns, and other financial information.
- Learn how to perform detailed financial analysis on the small business, including trend and ratio analysis, and interpret the financial information to determine credit quality and cash flow adequacy.
- Coordinate with Team Leaders regarding customer calls and site visits.
- Perform other due diligence as needed to determine the creditworthiness of a small business owner.
Requirements
- Seeking students pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, or similar discipline
- Passion for pursuing a career in Underwriting and strong willingness to learn the credit space.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Proficient in various spreadsheet and word processing applications (Excel and Word are preferred) including the use of graphs/charts,
- Team player with the ability to take the initiative.
- Detail-oriented, ability to work well under pressure and multi-task.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem recognition and resolution skills.
