Adult Services and Program Librarian

POSITION DETAILS: The Adult Services and Program Librarian is a full-time position that plans, develops, implements, and evaluates library programs and services for adults in consultation with the library director. The adult services coordinator is responsible for all adult collection development. This position is also responsible for website maintenance and contributes to outreach, including social media and the monthly newsletter.

SALARY: $22-24/hour, dependent on experience

HOURS:

40 hours weekly with Tues-Sat hours set

11am-7pm Tuesday and Thursday

10am-6pm Wednesday

9am-3pm Friday and Saturday

4 hours of either work from home or at the library any day of the week

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree and one to three years library or planning experience
• MLIS or VT library certification or willingness to pursue certification preferred
• Demonstrates the ability to manage varied sized groups of up to 100 community members
• Website maintenance; WordPress preferred
• Experience with graphic design; Canva preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plans, organizes, leads, and supervises innovative and diverse library programs, workshops, and displays inside and outside the library setting, including virtual programming
• Coordinates programs to work into library initiatives, departmental objectives, and community events
• Along with the library director, promotes public awareness of the library by building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and other related agencies
• Coordinates library services to specific target populations including adult current and potential patrons, residential home residents, and underserved communities
• Presents monthly reports to the library director in a timely manner
• Works directly with potential program presenters/performers and stays within budget limits
• Actively promotes library services, materials, and programs to patrons
• Buys and processes adult materials in accordance with the budget and community interests
• Provides assistance in the operations of the circulation desk including answering phones, assisting patrons with general questions and hold requests, and overall support to ensure patrons’ needs are met
• Assists with social media and development of monthly newsletter
• Assists director with grant administration that pertains to adult services
• Maintains website
• Manages cataloging functions and the library’s integrated library system (Verso)
• Assists with annual spring fundraiser
• Assists in training new staff and volunteers

SKILLS:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work with library patrons and staff in a consistently friendly and efficient manner
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently
• Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills
• Competency in using computers, office applications, and library-related software
• Ability to prioritize work activities
