Bits Engineering builds AI-powered tooling to support modern methods for drug discovery and development. We are embedded within a leading global biopharma research organization based in Cambridge, MA. Our team develops a single, focused product: a chat-first web application built for collaborative scientific exploration and analysis.

The Product

Our hybrid chat and dashboard interface provides researchers conversational access to scientific data, alongside structured navigation for when they need it. The application integrates a broad ecosystem of scientific APIs, methodologies and data into a unified research experience. We are highly reactive to advances within the quickly emerging AI space – our platform design accommodates adaptability and versatility while providing the stability of domain-specific strategies for evaluating new therapeutic hypotheses.

The Role

Your primary responsibility is enriching our application with AI/ML workflow capabilities — designing, building, and operating the intelligent layer of the product. A key challenge is graph-oriented thinking: our data is richly relational, and we need someone who can model and traverse it elegantly. Think entities, relationships, and traversal — as well as the practical tradeoffs of building a rich relational/graph/ontology driven data system for research.

You're expected to contribute across the full stack when needed. But your primary leverage is in AI/ML workflow development and the infrastructure that supports it.

What You'll Work On

• LLM-powered agentic pipelines and workflow orchestration
• Integration of scientific data APIs and domain-specific tooling
• Intelligent search and entity profile matching across complex biomedical datasets
• AI infrastructure — evaluation, operations, and iterative improvement
• Full-stack contributions across a Python/Django backend and Angular frontend
• Skills to access internal and external resources (e.g., Open Targets, UniProt, Ensembl, and others)

What We're Looking For

• Solid Python/Django (also FastAPI/Flask/Pydantic) and Typesript/Angular familiarity
• Fluent with LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI) and agentic workflow patterns (e.g., LangGraph)
• Comfortable with AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code as a core part of your workflow
• Graph-oriented thinker — you naturally model data as entities and relationships
• Curious about biomedical and scientific data; domain knowledge a plus, not a requirement
• Willingness to learn fast in a domain-rich environment
