Equine Professional Job Description

HIRING FOR WED afternoons and SAT hours

The purpose of the Equine Professional (EP) at Bit of Hope Ranch is provide a safe environment for the horse and human when:

1. Assisting the Mental Health Counselor in sessions
2. Leading Recreational Riding lessons in privates/groups
4. Leading Pony Rides for rental events
5. Leading grant groups, coaching groups and other Equine Assisted Learning groups.

All Equine Professionals should have the basic skills to assist in a counseling session (mounted and unmounted), teach a beginner walk/trot lesson (English/Western) and lead a pony ride event. We provide online/in person training for our Herdmanship Certifications.

Qualifications:
Each horse professional must have

1. At least 2 years working with horses: riding, managing, training, etc.
2. Must be certified with our Herdmanship University training. This is free to all staff.
3. Experience with horses at liberty, on halter/rope and under saddle. (We will provide training for those needing to gain experience).
4. PATH and CHA certifications are encouraged.

5. Must be able to work 1x/week a feed shift Must be able to work in all weather conditions as well as lift 50 lbs ( if needed).

Professionalism and Expectations
1. EPs must abide by HIPAA standards for record keeping, communication, etc. as well as abide by the code of ethics for their certifications.

2. EP’s must wear attire that is safe and appropriate for clients. Tasteful outdoor, active wear is allowed. Tennis shoes, boots are a must. (No short shorts, skimpy tanks, etc).

3. EPs must keep their cell phone on them and set to vibrate. No outside calls or texts while in a session. Emergencies are communicated between teams via cell phone.

4. EPs must arrive 30 minutes before their first session to check in with the team and prepare for the day.

5. The EP must make sure that their horse has water, hay (if needed) and has been fed if they were working during a session. All horses are to be returned to their pasture if that is their last session.

6. EPs must complete their time sheet and horse tracker within 48 hours of a session/lesson.
7. EPs must be team players and willing to work a variety of lessons/sessions

8. Our hours of operation are Mon-Sat 9:00-7:00 p.m. The Ranch is striving to book sessions/events every hour with a lunch break. It is important that you are available for the day/days that you sign up. We will do our best to fill your schedule so it is financially beneficial for you. Most Saturdays will have lessons from 8:30-12:00. Birthday Parties will also be booked 10-12 and 1-3. Special events are TBA.

Record Keeping and Online Booking
1. Sessions and lessons are booked online via Simple Practice.
2. Clients have to enter a credit card to book a session and it will be charged at midnight.

If a client wants to pay by check/cash for TR or lessons, you will need to disable that feature in Simple Practice.

3. Once you have committed to the session, please mark you space, horse and type of event on SCHEDULER

4. If someone does not show/cancels, please mark that in Simple Practice and on the
SCHEDULER

5. The Office will alert you to sessions and lessons. It is vital that you reply ASAP so we can have prompt communication with our clients/students.

6. TR sessions will enter a session note in Simple Practice. Riding lessons do not require lesson notes. Counseling session notes are made by the therapist. All EPs will type notes in the horse tracker concerning the horse.

Payment Schedule

1. Timesheets need to be filled out weekly. Payroll is 2x/month and has a posted schedule in the timesheets. Counseling sessions will be paid out as insurance/self pays. All other lessons/sessions will be paid out 2x/month.

2. Pay starts at $18/hour for most sessions.

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour
