Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Test Technician- Mechanical is accountable to the Test Lab Supervisor responsible for leading technical resources for Mechanical and Consumables product testing. The Sr. Test Technician position will support the installation and utilization of new test equipment and procedures for testing of device mechanics, execute those procedures on new mechanical products, and carry out established chemical tests on those products as needed. This position will interact with various project team members to perform and interpret tests for products, systems, components (mechanical and electronic), chemical/formula compatibility with mechanical components, or modifications. The Sr. Test Technician must have a significant, demonstrated understanding of the science behind test methods and be able to communicate intent and analysis of results competently. They must also possess a high level of ability to pre-emptively identify and resolve complex problem areas within product design, test methods, test plans, and laboratory processes. The Sr. Test Technician will work closely with cross-functional teams to perform design validation and verification testing under a minimal level of direct supervision.
Responsibilities
POSITION PROFILE:
This position is directly or indirectly responsible for the following pertaining to testing and development of mechanical products and concepts:
Conducts testing using test procedures of varying complexity in an accurate and timely manner.
Develops detailed reports describing method of analysis, data collected, and results achieved. Collaborates with Test Engineers and Development Engineers regarding test outcome, impact to design, and potential design improvements.
Integrates electronic, electrical, mechanical and software principles in a testing environment.
Actively shares expertise/experience and participates in the development of junior level technical staff.
Stays objective in areas of conflicting departmental priority; able to maintain course given by direct line manager.
Demonstrates practical knowledge in electronic, electrical and mechanical systems and uses it to collaborate on fixture design, test protocol development, product design recommendations, and data analysis.
Assists/drives the development, implementation, and documentation/training of BISSELL test equipment, procedures, and standards.
Effectively uses experience and technical knowledge for delivering creative solutions to internal laboratory processes and projects.
Attend design reviews as needed to answer test related questions.
Participate in internal systematic problem-solving activities and give data rational input in external systematic problem-solving sessions.
Investigates the feasibility of applying data acquisition and/or automation into manual test lab processes. Assists in the development and implementation of relevant automation
Proactively recommends and drives changes to the Engineering Lab technical capabilities in response to the organization’s shifting needs.
Actively engages in learning/developmental activities, enhancing personal knowledge, skill and potential career growth.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
Degree minimum: AAS Mechanical Engineering Technology, AAS Electrical Engineering
Technology, or equivalent and demonstrated experience.
Specific concentration: Mechanical, Electrical, Plastics/Polymer, and/or Consumer Products
Experience level: 5+ years
SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR SKILLS REQUIRED:
Ability to interpret engineering design documents ie. schematics, drawings, software code.
Experience testing electro-mechanical systems with electronic controls, including both embedded and application software.
Electronic circuit and software troubleshooting experience.
Experience with environmental test chamber operation and procedures
Demonstrated ability to disassemble and properly reassemble consumer appliances.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multitask multiple job assignments.
Proficiency in the use of standard laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, micrometers, calipers, leakage current, dielectric, and other test instrumentation and hand tools).
