Bismarck Public Schools is accepting applications for an Academic Tutor located at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch.
This position will work 29 hours per week.
Purpose StatementThe Academic Tutor supports students in developing academic skills in reading or math through targeted individual and small-group instruction. Working under the direction of licensed instructional staff, the tutor uses district-approved materials and strategies to reinforce classroom instruction and address identified learning needs.
Supervisory Relationship
Reports to: Building Principal or designee and assigned classroom teacher or reading specialist
Essential Functions
Skills
Support students in strengthening academic skills and becoming more confident, independent learners. Implement assigned tutoring activities with fidelity, monitor student engagement and performance, and promptly share relevant observations with supervising staff.
Work Environment
Work primarily in a school setting with individual students or small groups. The position requires regular interaction with students, use of instructional materials and technology, and the ability to maintain focus in an active learning environment. The employee may move between classrooms or instructional areas as assigned.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Postsecondary coursework in education or a related field and prior experience working with children or providing academic support are preferred. Must complete all district-required training.

Essential Functions
- Provide individual and small-group academic support as scheduled and directed by licensed instructional staff.
- Use district-approved, evidence-based instructional materials and strategies to reinforce academic skills, as appropriate to student needs.
- Follow instructional plans and interventions developed by the classroom teacher, reading specialist, or other licensed staff.
- Engage students in supportive, age-appropriate practice and provide clear, constructive feedback that encourages persistence and independence.
- Observe student performance, maintain accurate session records, and communicate progress or concerns to the supervising teacher or specialist.
- Prepare, organize, and care for instructional materials; complete required training related to academic instruction, student safety, and district procedures.
- Maintain student confidentiality and adhere to district policies, procedures, and staff expectations.
- Demonstrate consistent and prompt attendance and establish positive, respectful relationships with students and staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support students and the school's instructional program.
