What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Paraprofessional (Secondary) position at Bismarck High School?
Primary Function: To aide and assist both the teacher and students in the self-contained special education classroom.

- To work with individual students on classroom assignments.
- To work with students in small groups on various subjects.
- To assist the teacher with daily operations in the classroom.
- Accompany students to classes or activities outside of the special education classroom if deemed necessary according to a child’s IEP and/or behavior plan.
- To perform duties as assigned by the teacher or administrators.
- Serve the students in the classroom in whatever capacity deemed appropriate to contribute to the management of the classroom and assist the teacher.
- Meet the personal care needs of specific students as appropriate
- Heavy lifting may be involved.
- The employee may be asked to perform other duties if deemed necessary and reasonable to support the orderly operations of the Special Education Self-Contained classroom.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Assist with student transfers, positioning, mobility, and use of adaptive equipment, as needed.
- Implement IEP accommodations, instructional supports, behavior plans, and classroom routines under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Maintain student confidentiality and follow district policies and procedures related to special education.
*Must have 60 college hours or pass the Parapro Praxis.
