Job Title: HUD Certified Housing Counselor
Primary Function: Responsible for overall implementation of the day-to-day activities to ensure effective and successful operation of Sheen Housing’s Home Ownership Program and ensuring program compliance. Willing to hire non-certified housing counselor but must obtain certification within 6 months.
Specific Duties: Includes, but not limited to:
1. Processing applications, verifying eligibility for programs, conducting income verification, and making determinations of applicant’s status. Preparing client files for close-out and audit.
2. Providing comprehensive housing counseling, program packaging, and follow-up (group and individual) on legal and practical aspects of home ownership, preventative mortgage default counseling, residential tax and utility education, financial packaging, housing management, and maintenance.
3. Preparing detailed statistics and written reports, while maintaining accurate and updated office files, procedure manuals, and activity logs.
4. Safeguarding confidential and sensitive information.
5. Performing other duties, attending meetings, conferences, and other events as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but consideration given to candidates with a High School Diploma and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in housing counseling and/or direct housing activities. HUD Certification as a Comprehensive Housing Counselor or willingness to get certified will be required.
2. Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and self-direction.
3. Mandatory computer skills are mandated, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
4. Must have HUD Housing Counselor Certification or be willing to obtain it.
5. Housing Counseling or Real Estate experience preferred.
