SUMMARY

The Campus Safety Monitor aids with school, student and staff safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance.   • Monitor and patrol school campus, buildings, and parking areas.
  • Develop a positive rapport with students, parents, teachers, staff, alumni, and vendors.
  • Establish and promote a safe environment and accident prevention by performing safety audits, employee training, and inspections and by maintaining open channels of communication.
  • Response plans (evacuation, shelter in place, lock down, medical emergencies, etc.)
  • Assist students in the development of appropriate behavior and an appreciation of an inclusive, diverse environment.
  • Respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
  • Report violations of school rules or illegal actions to administrators when appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the local community and first responders.
  • Encourage a clean campus environment and unobstructed hallways and common areas.
  • Follow appropriate action to assist an injured or physically ill student or staff member.
  • Model professionalism and nondiscriminatory practices in an educational environment.
  • Support the philosophy, policies, and goals of the school.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all students.
  • Hold in strict confidence all matters pertaining to the school.
  • Maintain knowledge of current issues and trends circulating on campus.
  • Perform effectively and assertively in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.
  • Perform additional or different duties to address business needs and changing business practices as determined by the Principal or Principal designee.

QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent required. Related experience in similar position is preferred. Must successfully pass Diocesan background screening and Safe Environment Training.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.


WORKING CONDITIONS

The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure. 


PHYSICAL and SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing 15 feet and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and

materials 30 pounds.
