JOB TITLE: CUSTODIAN
DEPARTMENT: Bisbee High School
REPORTS TO: Facilities & Transportation Manager
FLSA STATUS/CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt; Classified
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None
SUMMARY: Performs various cleaning duties in assigned district buildings or schools in accordance with county health department and school district standards to provide a safe, attractive, clean and comfortable environment for students, staff and visitors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sweeps, mops, vacuums, buffs, waxes, polishes floors and empties trash
- Shampoos carpets as necessary
- Dusts and cleans furniture, blinds, windows, vents, doors, ceilings and equipment
- Replaces burned out light bulbs
- Locks doors, windows and gates
- May retrieve mail and put up flags
- Safely uses and mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals as directed on product labels
- Reports to lead custodian the need for paper and/or cleaning supplies
- Reports immediately any damage and/or vandalism to school property or safety hazards
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of accepted cleaning methods using standard custodial equipment
- Knowledge of safety precautions and practices with cleaning chemicals and solutions
- Ability to interact positively with students and staff
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions

Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
- Ability to work safely, cooperatively and courteously with students and staff
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year previous custodial experience
- Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
