Responsibilities
- Leads team on performing maintenance services on company vehicles, including buses, vans, and service vehicles
- Collaborate with team members for scheduling repairs and services
- Diagnose and repair vehicles, ensuring safety and operation
- Focus on preventive maintenance procedures and minor defect repairs
- Learn and use our maintenance tracking system to complete work orders and stay compliant on scheduled services.
- Performs thorough, accurate Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMI)
- Follows schedule to complete all required PM maintenance operations including lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotation.
- With direction from the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, performs unscheduled maintenance as needed such as DVIR repairs.
- Must be able to utilize a ladder and other elevation equipment to access the roof of buses and elevated light fixtures for repairs and maintenance.
- Must operate CDL and Non-CDL vehicles (buses and van) to perform road tests, as well as shuttle in an out of the garage for repairs and maintenance.
- Must be able to operate bench grinder, torch, drill press, jack and jack stands, Sawzall, oil pumps, power washer, parts cleaner and other hand tools required to perform work.
- Perform emergency roadside services as needed which may require operation of either replacement vehicle or utility truck.
- Emergency conditions may require calls at home, extended hours, or weekend work when available.
- Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately
- Maintains tools and workplace so that conditions are neat and orderly
- Must be thoroughly familiar with all safety provisions associated with vehicle maintenance.
- Understands and conforms to State EPA regulations regarding disposal of toxic waste substances.
- Strong understanding and abide by OSHA standards/provisions.
- Performs other duties as required.
- CDL B with P&S Endorsements (or can obtain after starting)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- At least 3 years’ experience as a mechanic in an automotive, school bus, trucking or heavy equipment environment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Positive attitude and willingness to continue learning a must.
- Provide your own hand tools required for regular maintenance.
- Current State Driver's License with a clean driving record and ability to maintain.
- Knowledge of tools, procedures, technical skills, and safety rules used in the maintenance and repair of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered equipment.
- Operational knowledge of motorized gasoline, diesel and alternative fueled vehicles, and shop equipment and tools
- Inspection of equipment and diagnose mechanical defects.
- This position may require an employee to drive a vehicle. This means that the hiring process will include verification that the candidate has a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for employment.
