JOB TITLE: Part-Time AVID Tutor
PAY GRADE/DAYS OF DUTY: Non-Degreed - $15/Hr; Degreed - $25/Hr
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Campus Principal, AVID District Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Advanced Academics
Job Summary
Trained in the AVID Tutorial process, provides student support in Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) skill development, and serves as a college going or professional role model for AVID Elective students. Guides students in appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in Higher Education, career, and society.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and/or college hours from an accredited college/university
- Qualifications also include a 2.5 G.P.A., evidenced by a college transcript, preferred
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet and facilitate assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons and communicate objectives to students
- Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, administrative regulations, and AVID program
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved
- Provide opportunities for students to participate actively and successfully
- Evaluate and provide feedback on student progress to the teacher
- Cooperate with the teacher and staff in implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements
- Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study
- Assist and assume responsibility for field trips approved by the school
- Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes in a regular school day
- Maintain order in the classroom according to the teacher’s guidelines and in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities
- Provide as much as possible, a safe environment to protect students
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with the students and the AVID teacher/coordinator concerning the student progress
- Maintain a professional relationship with all students, parents, and community members
- Promote the school in a positive manner within the school and community
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, staff, parents, and the community
- Participate in the tutorial training for AVID and become familiar with the program and resources
- Demonstrate human relations skills that are professional, ethical and responsible
- Perform other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate (verbal and written), ability to instruct and ability to maintain emotional control under stress. General knowledge of the curriculum in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and good knowledge of child growth and development

Environment: Work is located in classroom/office environment, workshop, and meeting settings; must have the ability to move from one location to another throughout the district
