Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lathe Operator to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathes and related machinery to produce precision metal components. Your expertise in machining, blueprint reading, and technical programming will ensure the highest quality standards are met while adhering to safety protocols. Duties
- Set up CNC lathes, including installing tooling, fixtures, and programming parameters using CNC programming languages such as Fanuc or similar control systems.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and specifications to produce precise parts.
- Operate CNC lathe machines and manual hand tools to machine components within tight tolerances using precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines.
- Perform routine maintenance on machinery, troubleshoot issues, and make adjustments to optimize performance.
- Utilize CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software such as SolidWorks and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) programming to develop or modify machining programs.
- Conduct quality inspections during and after production using precision tools such as dial indicators, bore gauges, and other measurement devices.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following lean manufacturing principles, adhering to safety standards, and properly handling power tools, welding equipment, and tooling.
Experience
- Proven experience operating CNC lathes or CNC milling machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of CNC programming languages like Fanuc or equivalent control systems.
- Skilled in reading blueprints, technical drawings, GD&T specifications, and mechanical diagrams.
- Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM), plastics injection molding processes, welding techniques, and assembly procedures is a plus.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar design tools for part modeling and tooling design.
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and troubleshooting machining issues.
- Mechanical knowledge related to tooling setup, calibration of precision measuring instruments, and machine maintenance.
