Position: Quality Assurance Mechanical Inspector
Schedule: 4x10, Monday-Thursday
This position is located at the Bayou La Batre, AL facility.

Key Responsibilities
- Understand and operate under the guidelines of Birdon’s Quality Management System procedures, work instructions, forms and records, nonconformance logs, corrective action logs, and capture repair/rework costs.
- Create and maintain associated coatings related work instructions, training records, and along with engineering, production, and program management, develop effective and efficient corrective action plans, where needed.
- Coordinate with shipyard Facilities Department and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Department to establish blasting and painting equipment, consumable, and measurement and test tool calibration, storage, maintenance, and safety guidelines.
- Coordinate with the shipyard Coatings Department or subcontractor to review / update all blasting and coating procedures, work instructions, forms, and reports.
- Coordinate with Production Control and Production to facilitate the closure of work packages and outfitting concerns, plan projects, monitor progress, conduct quality checks / holds, and conduct, review, or collect all blasting and coating reports for review by 3rd party NACE Specialist, 3rd party regulators, and the customer.
- Conduct bulkhead and overhead insulation preparation and installation checks.
- Conduct flooring preparation, coatings, underlayment, and flooring installation checks.
Qualifications and experience
- High School degree or GED preferred.
- Certified BCI/NACE/SSPC Level II Operator with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry. Willingness to attain SSPC Level III Coating Specialist certification a plus.
- AS 9100/ISO 9001 Quality Management System training desired.
- Must be able to read and manipulate drawings/blueprints, material test reports, standards, and customer specifications.
- Must be able to set up test equipment and write inspection and test reports.
- Excellent math, skills with the ability to compare design / construction drawing tolerances against as built redlines and notations.
- Ability to work with a diverse range of teams and people.
- DOD or DHS scheduling experience within a ship manufacturing environment.
